Lany Space x Emily Fleury: A Playful Take on Everyday Objects

Designer: Emily Fleury
What would a pink cell phone or a strawberry milk carton look like on your floor? Meet Emily Fleury, whose playful designs pair everyday objects with bright colors and retro details. She’s especially drawn to 2000s aesthetics, finding inspiration in the objects and unexpected color combinations that catch her eye.
For our collaboration, Emily revisited some of her existing designs for a collection of five rugs, featuring familiar objects and a tropical sunset. Below, you’ll get to know her creative world, from the styles she loves mixing at home to the little details that make “Milk” her favorite piece.
An Interview with Emily Fleury
Q: How would you describe your design style?
A: I would describe my style as pop, colorful, and spontaneous. I love playing with colors, shapes, and little graphic details to create designs that catch the eye and bring personality to a space.
Q: How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?
A: My personality has a big influence on the way I create. I’m naturally drawn to bright colors, pop aesthetics, fun little details, and spaces that simply make me feel good and at ease. I’m very much guided by things that catch my eye. A color, an object, a reference, or an unexpected combination can easily become the starting point for a new design.
My work is therefore quite spontaneous and reflects the things I genuinely enjoy. I love experimenting with shapes and colors without feeling the need to follow trends or fit into one particular style. I think that’s what allows me to create work that truly feels like me.
Q: How do you incorporate your personal style into your home design projects?
A: I really enjoy mixing different styles and colors depending on my mood and inspiration. I have a real love for 2000s aesthetics, but I also enjoy the warm, authentic feel of country-inspired interiors. I’m drawn to spaces that have personality, with bold colors, patterns, wood, cozy textures, and lots of little details that make a room feel lively and inviting.
Q: What inspired you to collaborate with our rug brand?
A: I really loved the fact that every rug is created by a professional designer, and that so much thought and time goes into each design. I also felt that the brand’s aesthetic was very close to my own: colorful, trendy, and original. It felt like a natural fit, so I couldn’t say no!
Q: What was your first impression of Lany Space rugs and our overall style?
A: Colorful, pop, and trendy, with designs that feel unique and different from what you usually see.
Q: Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?
A: There isn’t really a specific story behind this collection. It’s more of a reflection of my creative world and the things I love. I’m drawn to bright colors, pop and retro influences, as well as everyday objects and references that I find fun or inspiring.
For this collection, I chose to revisit some of my existing designs and bring them together around a similar aesthetic. I wanted to create a colorful, graphic, and spontaneous selection of pieces that could easily add personality and a fun touch to a space. Above all, I wanted the collection to feel true to my style: colorful, pop, playful, and joyful.
Q: Among the pieces in this collection, which is your favorite design, and why?
A: Without a doubt, I would say “Milk”! I absolutely love the colors and its little kawaii touch, which I find really cute. It feels very much like me, with its pop, colorful, and slightly quirky style. It’s exactly the kind of piece I love having in a space: something that instantly adds a little personality and fun.
Q: If you could sum up this collection in three words, what would they be?
A: Fun, pop, playful.

Multicolor Book Stack Shaped Rug
Book lovers, this one’s for you. Emily’s illustrated stack mixes pink, orange, and blue books, with flowers, stars, and wavy lines decorating their spines. The outline follows the uneven pile, with individual books peeking out on either side.
We love this 2'×5' runner for eclectic and maximalist interiors, where its mix of colors and small patterns can mingle with other playful prints. If your shelves already show off your taste in books, here’s a little extra space to express it.

Multicolor Tropical Sunset Wavy Rug
Sunset looks a little different in Emily’s world. A palm tree with a pink-and-red striped trunk curves across blue water, with olive-green leaves spreading in front of an oversized orange sun. A cream wavy border frames the scene, echoing the ripples below.
We’d choose this one for a colorful coastal room or a bohemian interior with a love of bold prints. You’ll find it in 4'×6', 5'×7', and 7'×10', so there’s plenty of choice for your own slice of the tropics.

We’d style this 2'×5' runner in a Y2K bedroom or a colorful pop art interior. Its oversized phone silhouette and bold pink-and-green palette can hold their own alongside your graphic prints and glossy finishes.

Comfort food has a place in your decor, too. Emily’s bowl pairs olive and pale-green stripes with yellow noodles, egg halves, and a pink-swirl fish cake. Brown chopsticks rest across the rim, completing the illustrated feast.
We’d serve this 4'×4' design in an eclectic kitchen or a dining space with a playful pop art style. If you enjoy collecting food-shaped decor, the oversized bowl is a fun way to extend that theme to your floor.
