Lany Space x Sophia Croasdale: Color, Pattern, and Art You Can Live With

Designer: Sophia Croasdale
For Austin-based artist Sophia Croasdale, art has always moved across different surfaces. Her work explores color relationships, pattern, movement, and illusion, with a practice that spans canvas, murals, and packaging. Now, rugs and textiles have become a natural next step for her designs, opening up a new way for her artwork to enter everyday spaces.
What makes this transition feel special is the idea of artwork as a functional piece, something people don’t just look at, but live with every day. Sophia's visual language feels expressive, layered, and full of motion, carrying the same creative energy from painted works into home design. In this interview, Sophia shares more about her artistry, her designs for Lany Space, and the process of bringing art into living spaces.
An Interview with Sophia Croasdale
Q: How would you describe your design style?
A: My design style is rooted in illusion, pattern, and color. I create compositions that balance structure and spontaneity, drawing inspiration from both architectural and organic forms. Repetition, rhythm, and movement are central to my work, creating designs that feel energetic and meditative.
Q: How have your personal experiences or personality influenced your design ideas?
A: I've always been fascinated by the way our environments shape the way we feel, think, and experience life. As someone who is naturally observant, I find inspiration everywhere, from the geometry of architecture to the intricate patterns found in butterfly wings, plants, and rippling water. My work is driven by a desire to create moments of wonder through color and pattern. I want to encourage people to slow down, look more closely, and discover beauty in the details that surround them every day.
Q: How do you incorporate your personal style into your home design projects?
A: I approach home design projects the same way I approach all of my other work: by creating visual experiences that transform a space. Color, scale, and pattern are essential elements in my work, and I use them thoughtfully to create pieces that bring energy, warmth, and personality into a home while remaining timeless and versatile.
Q: What drew you to collaborate with our rug brand?
A: I was excited by the opportunity to translate my artwork into functional pieces that people can live with every day. Rugs have a unique ability to anchor and transform a space. Collaborating with Lany Space offered a chance to bring my visual language into a new medium while creating pieces that are artistic and practical.
Q: What was your first impression of Lany Space rugs and our style?
A: I was immediately drawn to Lany Space's rugs because they feel like genuine works of art rather than simply decorative objects. They are playful, vibrant, and unexpected, with a strong sense of personality. I also noticed the bold use of color and form throughout many of the collections, which strongly resonates with my own artistic approach. It felt like a natural fit for my work.
Q: Could you share the story or concept behind the collection you designed for us?
A: I wanted the pieces to feel bold but balanced, something that brings strong visual impact into a space while still feeling grounded. The collection is really about color, repetition, and the patterns you find everywhere, both in nature and in the built world around us. These are one-of-a-kind, actual art pieces made to live large in your home. They're designed to brighten up a room, add energy, and make a space feel more alive.
Q: Among the pieces in these collections, which design is your favorite, and why?
A: “Parallel Universe” is probably my favorite piece in the collection because it creates a striking optical illusion, uses unique color combinations, and carries a strong sense of visual energy. I can imagine it living in a wide range of interiors, completely transforming a space.
Q: If you could sum up this collection in three words, what would they be?
A: Rhythmic. Bold. Immersive.

Each design in Sophia Croasdale’s collection is available in 5'×7' and 7'×10', giving the pieces room to work as a colorful accent or a stronger anchor for the room.
01
Multicolor Horizon Stripe Rug
Featuring stacked horizontal stripes, checker-like blocks, and mirrored color bands, the Multicolor Horizon Stripe Rug brings Sophia Croasdale's sense of rhythm and color into a bold, graphic design. Teal, raspberry pink, coral red, orange, cream, sky blue, burgundy, and deep green move across the rug like layered horizons, giving the piece a lively but structured feel.
It would look beautiful under a cream sofa with walnut or black wood furniture, or in a bedroom with white bedding and small accents of rust, navy, or pale blue to pull out the colors in the pattern.

02
Gradient Pixel Grid Rug
With a field of small square marks layered over a color-shifting background, the Gradient Pixel Grid Rug has a clean digital rhythm with a soft optical pull. It comes in two colorways: the pink and orange version feels warmer and brighter, moving from rosy pink into coral and golden orange, while the blue and green version feels cooler and more graphic, with teal, green, blue, and pink creating sharper contrast.
Use the warm colorway in a bedroom with light oak furniture and white bedding, or choose the cooler version for a studio, game room, or modern living room with a cream sofa, black accents, and deep teal details.

Mixed Signals Concentric Stripe Rug
Built from nested rectangular bands that draw the eye inward, the Mixed Signals Concentric Stripe Rug has a bold, centered layout that feels both graphic and polished. It comes in two colorways, and each one creates a different mood: the blue version pairs vivid blue with peach, coral, red, navy, and cream for a cooler, higher-contrast look, while the pink version moves through blush, pale yellow, coral, pink, and deep red for something softer and warmer.
The blue colorway would look especially nice under a glass or walnut coffee table with cream seating and navy accents, while the pink version works beautifully at the foot of a bed with ivory bedding, light wood furniture, and touches of rust or soft rose nearby.

Parallel Universe Stripe Rug
Sophia Croasdale's Parallel Universe Stripe Rug turns narrow bars, stacked horizontal lines, and repeating color columns into a striking optical pattern. The design has a steady, almost hypnotic rhythm, with each stripe feeling like a deliberate part of the larger composition. It comes in two colorways: the blue and red version feels deeper and more dramatic, layering teal, burgundy, coral, blush, and sky blue, while the green and pink version feels fresher and more playful, moving through mint, aqua, red, soft pink, and pale green.
Place the blue and red colorway beneath a cream sofa with dark wood furniture, or use the green and pink version in a studio or bedroom with light wood, white walls, and soft pink or sage accents.

Final Touch
A home with personality doesn't have to follow a fixed plan. It can grow slowly, shift with your mood, and leave room for color, pattern, and pieces that feel personal. Sophia Croasdale's designs remind us that a room doesn't need to be finished all at once. Sometimes, one expressive rug is enough to open up a new direction, invite more play, and make the space feel more alive.
Our Lany Space x Sophia Croasdale collection brings her distinctive visual language into rugs made for everyday living. From layered stripes to pixel-like grids and optical patterns, each piece carries the feeling of artwork made to be lived with. We're excited to see how these designs become part of your own home story.
